The 6Sight Report, a digital imaging trade publication, is considered required reading for executives in the digital imaging industry. We met them at the ARE2010 Conference, and they interviewed founder Michelle Fallon for the August-September Augmented Reality issue.
Several months ago I asked our resident imaging futurist Paul Worthington his opinion of what new technologies we should feature at the 2010 6Sight Future of Imaging conference. His first suggestion: Augmented Reality. I immediately asked two questions: "What is it?" and "What’s it have to do with photo imaging?"
...I needed to get real first-hand information myself — and so I went to the ARE2010 augmented reality event in San Jose, CA.
As soon as I entered the trade show, I saw that new technologies were in evidence everywhere. The willingness of the developers to share information and excitement was overwhelming - but gratifying. The spirit of innovation was driving everyone. I met a number of entrepreneurs at this event who helped me understand AR.
Probably my favorite demonstration was YOUReality3D’s "Retail Visualization." The technology lets you take a photo of your living room, upload it to a website, and then drag and drop furniture into the photograph, and move the items around. For those of us who have moved heavy couches from one end of a room to another and back again to find a place where it fits only to discover we had a piece too large or the wrong color, we know the value of such technology.
Don't Just Take Our Word For It...
